Club met on Weds. We had three main groups: Begginners (A group), Advanced Rules (B Group), and the rest were our cafeteria players (experience players).
Kids were out of class at 3:15. Everyone gathered in the cafeteria for snacks and chess problems.
At 3:30, each group went to their respective area.
In the cafeteria, children's win/loss were recorded and used to determine their position on a
chess ladder.
The Club ended at 4:30. An advanced class ran from 4:30-5:15. This class
is designed to give more advanced players pointers and is aimed at the strongest
players.
Last club meeting (Pizza Party) was 5/6/05 (First Wednesday in May).
Tournaments: We had a large number of tournament players this year. We generally had 15-20 children participate in any one tournament and had 29 players that played in one or more tournaments. 10 of our players attended 4 or more tournaments.

February 7, GCA Georgia K-8 Scholastic EASTERN METRO ATLANTA REGIONAL Team Tournament,
Team score: K3 took 3rd place with a 19.5,
and was invited to participate in State, K5 scored 14.5 points
(15 pts required for a K5 team to be invited this year).
April 18, 2009 - Gwinnett County Scholastic Chess Tournament Team score: 2nd (K3) and 2nd (K5). Shakrag was first in both K3/K5.
This tournaments was jointly hosted by NGHS / SHES chess clubs. Coach Keith and Coach Mike, along with Randy Crutchfield (from NGHS) were the key organizers of this tournament.
2007-08

were first place, respectively.

April 18-20, National High School (K-12) Championships, Individual Results Team score: 20th place trophy! (top 4 scores counted, we had only 3 participants!)

Team score: K3 won 2 out of 5 rounds and K5 won 3 out of 5 rounds (winning a Trophy!)
Team score: K3 took 3rd (out of 18) and K5 took 2nd (out of 24). Chess-Mates and Shakerag were in 1st place respectively.
Will end the club on 5/16/07 (Third Monday in May).
2005-06
Second year. Started the club the 8/17/05 (third week of school).
Club met on Weds in the cafeteria (experience players) and the media center (beginners).
Kids were out of class at 3:15. Beginners had a 30 minute lessons followed by
play, while the cafeteria had worksheets and quick lessons with more time spent
playing chess.
Sometimes there were "theme" games, where everyone had to use the same opening.
Children's win/loss were recorded and used to determine their position on a
chess ladder.
The Club ended at 4:30. An advanced class ran from 4:30-5:15. This class
was designed to give more advanced players pointers and was aimed at the strongest
players.
Attended the October, November, and January GACS tournaments. The school to beat was Mason.
April 2006: We attended the 2nd Annual Gwinnett Chess tournament - Took 2nd in K-3, and 2nd in K-5. Schools taking first place this year were Norcross (K-5) and Shakrag (K-3). Craig, Harmony, and Camp Creek did very well too.
2004-05
First year. Club was started thanks to the efforts of Keith
Sewell. Keith organized a meeting in Oct 2004 which had 30
families turn up. Professional coaches were discussed as
options, but the parents decided that we should start out with
volunteer based club.
Club started meeting in Dec 2004 and met on Tues afternoon.
Ended the club the 5/10/05 (Second Tuesday in May).
April 2005: We attended the 2005 (first) Annual Gwinnett Chess tournament and did
really well. Everyone on the team had a real blast. We had 16
kids participate and fielded two teams: K-5 team and a K-3 team.
The K-5 team took first place in their catagory and the K-3 team
took third place in theirs. Note that some of the schools we were
up against had professional chess coaches! Schools to watch
out for next year:
Harmony and Shakrag.
